Designers are curious and first and foremost, they observe, take notice and make note of things that others often overlook.
Here you see a variety of projects, all of which have become part of an ongoing creative journey.

Colour for the Quilt Maker
A one hour power-point presentation with samples of work
Develop your colour confidence & explore a variety of ideas concerning colour for the quilt maker.
I aim to inspire you to make exciting colour choices for your quilts, enhance your colour awareness & develop your own approach to designing with colour.
The colours in my own textile work are often chosen as a response to observing nature and the landscape throughout the changing seasons. I have a hands-on approach - sketching, taking photos, making mood boards and stitching samples.
The power-point presentation includes some thought provoking colour theory and a comparison between approaches to using colour in developing quilt design.
Keep Stitching!
A one hour power-point presentation with samples of work
Discover my inspiration, working practice and creative process as I develop textile and quilt designs.
Find out how my work has been influenced by vintage quilts, the traditions & techniques of quilt making, my observations of the changing seasons, and my love of colour and pattern. I aim to spark ideas which you can use in your own quilt making.
I am continually updating this presentation as my work evolves. I bring my quilts, stitched samples and sketchbooks and I am always happy to answer questions.
Colour for the Quilt Maker
1 Day Workshop with Isobel Loftus (Approx 6 hours)
Understanding the basic principles of colour theory is crucial to designing a successful quilt. Even a simple design gains impact from good colour choices. This day will give you the opportunity to explore colour through a series of practical exercises.
I will encourage students to step out of their colour comfort-zone and guide them to select brand new colour palettes. Each member of the group will create their own unique colour collections of fabric and thread swatches.
Using the selected fabrics we will concentrate on making samples which explore colour placement and colour proportion within a quilt block. Then we will analyse colour choice of threads for hand and machine quilting.
Build your knowledge of colour to enhance your quilt making. Discover how much fun it is to be in control of your colours and gain confidence in making colour decisions. You will leave the workshop with a brand new colour collection and a range of fabric samples which show many approaches to designing with colour.
